Although technically a psychological thriller The Lost Swimmer was a slow starter, with Stephen's disappearance off the Amalfi Coast not occurring until more than half way through the book. That's not to say the lead up was not interesting enough to keep me engaged, but knowing the disappearance was coming I felt a little distracted by the other events that were happening in the story.
The plot was plausible and I think this was an important element in initially engaging the reader and keeping them hooked until the main action starts to happen. The writing style was good and the suspense was constant and measured with enough twists and turns to keep my mind ticking over in many different directions.
Overall The Lost Swimmer is an enjoyable read and a promising debut novel from Ann Turner.
